Masjid Qubaa was the first mosque ever built and holds a deep place in the history of Islam. In this post, we'll take a look at some of the history of the Masjid and the reward of praying there.
When Prophet Muhammad ﷺ migrated from Makkah to Madinah, he first stopped in a small village outside the city. This is where he and his companions built Masjid Qubaa. It wasn’t just a place to pray; it became a center of worship and community. The Prophet ﷺ himself helped lay the foundation stones of the mosque.
Masjid Qubaa started as a simple building made of mud and palm trunks. Over the years, it has been expanded and rebuilt many times. Now, it is a beautiful and large mosque that can hold thousands of people. The architecture reflects a mix of traditional and modern styles, with the center having an open roof and the front and back of the Masjid covered with a roof.
Today, Masjid Qubaa is a major attraction for visitors to Madinah. It is not only a place of worship but also a historical site where Muslims come to connect with the early days of Islam. As a result, it's often quite crowded during the day, and there are lessons given within the Masjid as well. It is always clean, well-maintained, and welcoming for everyone.
Masjid Qubaa isn't just a historical site, there's also a specific reward the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ told us about.
Sahl ibn Hunayf reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever purifies himself in his house, then comes to the mosque of Quba and prays in it, he will have a reward like the Umrah pilgrimage.”
This reward is one of the reasons why so many Muslims make an effort to visit and pray there when they are in Madinah.
Masjid Qubaa is located about 6 kilometers (around 4 miles) south of Masjid al-Haram in Madinah. There is a walkway that connects Masjid al-Haram to Masjid Qubaa. Many visitors love to take a walk along this path, especially on Saturday as it's known that the Messenger ﷺ would visit Masjid Qubaa every Saturday.
Masjid Qubaa is a must-visit for anyone who travels to Madinah. Whether you are a history lover, someone seeking more reward, or just curious to see where it all began, this mosque has something special to offer. Next time you’re in Madinah, make sure to add Masjid Qubaa to your itinerary.
